The Context of Caregivers of Aging Parents

I was asked to write an article about the context of caregivers of aging parents. What’s the scope and depth of their role? What are the issues they have to navigate every day?

I found it was easier to create an infographic that portrayed the profound complexity of the task. It proved useful with family members who seem to minimize what it takes to fulfill this demanding role or couldn’t understand why reinforcements are necessary.

I also found the infographic helpful in discussions with aging Boomers who still carried magical thinking in their DNA about how things will work out when they were officially old.

With the US population of single adults now outnumbering married adults and blended families outnumbering non-blended families, the question of who is going to do this work for older adults takes center stage in our national conversation on aging…
